Join the campaign for sexual assault systems reform in Austin

Why We Believe

2 in 5 women in Texas are survivors of sexual assault, and 70% of sexual assaults are committed by someone known to the victim, but only 9.2% of survivors report their experience to the police.

- The University of Texas at Austin

More than 13% of female sexual assault victims who choose not to report do so because they believe that the police cannot, or will not, do anything to help.

- United States Department of Justice

The Austin Police Department had probable cause to arrest more than 1,400 identified rape suspects between 2012 and 2017, but those suspects were not arrested.

- ProPublica, Newsy, and the Center for Investigative Reporting

834 incidents of rape were reported to the Austin Police Department in 2017, and 747 were reported in 2016.

- Austin Police Department

The Travis County District Attorney received just 224 cases of sexual assault from July 2016 to June 2017, and during that same period, only 8 sexual assault cases resulted in a guilty plea or a conviction at trial.
